Most of my original paintings begin as a stream of consciousness and are unplanned. I paint the canvas with scrumbles, scratches, drips and swoops of acrylic underpainting afterwards turning the canvas in several directions until my eyes can see something happening.

After I have a grasp on what's beginning to emerge, I bring in technical applications of paint or materials to shape, form and solidify the story. 

This autonomic approach to composition has been incredibly freeing, not to mention challenging & exciting for me. The compositions don't always work their way out as I may have hoped- but, MAN, when they do......... !
